I'm Doug Rooney — designer, strategist, and the person behind Rooney Creative. I've been helping businesses and nonprofits look their best and get found online for years, and honestly, I still find this work as interesting and rewarding as when I started.
I started Rooney Creative with a pretty simple belief: that small businesses and nonprofits deserve great design and smart marketing strategy, not just the leftovers after the big agencies have taken all the interesting work. That belief is still at the heart of everything I do.
A Little About How I Work
Every project I take on starts with a real conversation. I want to understand your business, your goals, your audience, and what you've tried before. I ask a lot of questions — sometimes more than clients expect — because the better I understand your situation, the more useful I can be.
From there I bring together design, strategy, and technical expertise to build something that actually works for you. I'm not just making things that look good (though I care a lot about that too). I'm building tools that help your business grow — websites that rank and convert, brands that build trust, print materials that make the right impression, email campaigns that people actually open.
I work collaboratively, which means you're involved throughout the process — not just at the beginning and end. Your feedback shapes the work, and I make it easy and enjoyable to give it. Most clients tell me working together felt less like hiring a vendor and more like having a creative partner in their corner.
What I've Learned After Years of This
Good creative work and good marketing strategy are inseparable. A beautiful website that nobody can find is a missed opportunity. A strong SEO strategy attached to a site with weak content and poor design won't reach its potential. Everything works better when it's built together with a clear purpose — and that integrated approach is what I bring to every engagement.
I've also learned that the best client relationships are built on honesty. If I think something won't work, I'll tell you. If your project needs something outside my wheelhouse, I'll say so and help you find the right person. My goal is always to be genuinely useful — not just to complete a project and move on.
The Clients I Love Working With
Over the years I've worked with businesses across a wide range of industries in and around the Main Line and Philadelphia — professional services, healthcare, manufacturing, retail, arts organizations, nonprofits, and more. The clients I work best with aren't defined by their industry. They're defined by how they approach things.
My favorite clients are curious, communicative, and care about doing good work. They understand that real results — especially in SEO — take some time to build. They value quality and want a collaborator who's genuinely invested in their success. If that sounds like you, I think we'd work really well together.
Based in Haverford, Connected to the Community
Rooney Creative is based in Haverford, Pennsylvania — in the heart of the Main Line, about 20 minutes from Center City Philadelphia. I work with clients across Delaware County, Montgomery County, Chester County, and throughout the Greater Philadelphia metro area, and I'm available to work with clients beyond the region for projects that don't require in-person meetings.
Being local matters to me. I know this community, I care about the businesses and organizations that make it thrive, and I have a genuine stake in helping them succeed.
A Few Kind Words From People I've Worked With
"Quality creative and timely service don't always go together. But they do with Doug Rooney. Kelly Music for Life can count on Doug to deliver excellent work and rapid turn-around. Doug brings great ideas to the table and quickly grasps the concepts we are after. Doug is a pleasure to have on our team." — Tom Kelly, Kelly Music for Life
"Doug is a tech guy with strong design skills and equally strong people skills. In my experience, that is a really rare and valuable combination. He is a translator, taking my ideas, embellishing them with a good dose of creativity and converting them to web, print, video, email, PowerPoint, whatever delivery format is best for the project." — Paula Jayne White, Lyric Performance Development
